Tournaments in Ireland
- Bunratty
Festival.
- The biggest tournament in the country having up to 300
participants, with number 5 in the world Peter Svidler taking part this
year.
Well organised, in a great location with good craic in the bar,
couldn't ask
for more from a chess tourney.
- Kilkenny.
- The second biggest, in a great little city but be warned
the Club House Hotel bar can cause serious damage to your chess!
Michael Adams has played here a number of times but hasn't
always won it.
- Cork
Congress
- Our own congress belongs to this group of four big
tournaments in Ireland with 170 taking part this year including 5
grandmasters. The city centre location is ideal for accommodation, food
and craic.
- Galway
Congress
- A relative newcomer to the chess circuit, Galway has
already made a name
for itself in the premiere league of Irish tourneys. With the young
grandmaster
Gawain Jones winning the top section last year.
- The Irish
Championship
- Having received badly needed sponsorship in recent
years the Irish has returned to it's rightful place among the top
tournaments in the country. With 5 grandmasters already signed up
and IM and GM norms on offer this years tournament looks an exciting
prospect.
