College Corinthians Superdraw

The Corinthians Superdraw tickets are €30 again this year, with 50% of the proceeds going to our club. I would encourage all members to ask for at least one ticket to sell, funds are always welcome to continue the clubs development with coaching & equipment our main focus this year.

Coaching begins in October

Just to keep you all updated, coaching is confirmed as starting on 10th October. DJ O Donoghue will be taking a beginners session that night, open to adults and juniors. Coaching continues with an adults session for 1200-1500 rated players on Friday 24th October with Henk De Jonge Finally, to cater for our quickly improving & stronger juniors, FM Alex Lopez will be commencing sessions this month also. Further sessions will be organised every month to cater for all levels within the club.


Club Fees

Afraid it's that time of year again, the good news is the rate is the same as last year, with the additional option of paying a reduced rate for the full season up front. See the About us page for details.

New Season

After those long hot summer days we now have the chess season to keep us going! If you are interested in playing in the Club Championship or the Munster Leagues for this season, please sign the sheet on the notice board in the club. The deadline for both is the 30th of September.
Coaching will be kicking off this season with many levels being catered for. Email corkchess@gmail.com with the header " Coaching". Give your name, rating and what type of coaching you are interested in. During the season we are looking to welcome British champion GM Stuart Conquest, GM Simon Williams, IM Chris Baker and our own Div 1 players FM Alex Lopez, Henk De Jonge & DJ O Donoghue amongst the teachers for this season.
We also intend to have an international club match. Details to be discussed but indicate if you want to be kept informed about this- Send email with header "International club game" to corkchess@gmail.com
Help us make this web site a useful tool. Email us your games, we will put them on the web site with a new "Junior Corner" and the clubs top players will give you advice. Also -to all members- if you buy a chess DVD or book, give us your opinion- we might buy it or avoid it..!

Annual General Meeting

The clubs annual general meeting will take place on Friday 5th of September. If you have items for discussion or motions that you want included on to the agenda then please submit in advance to either corkchess@gmail.com or to our club secretary, Peter Doyle pjdoyle123@eircom.net before Wednesday 3rd September.

Summer season

The club will remain open, but is generally very quiet during the summer months with some members making arrangements for games beforehand. Also some of the equipment will be removed for security reasons.

Colm Daly wins the inaugural Finbarr Allison Rapid Play

Colm Daly scored 5.5/6 to win the tournament with GM Gawain Jones, Jan Sodama, Ray O'Rourke and Nelman Lagutin coming joint second.

Cork win munster league

Ennis needed to win all 5 games in the round up to win the league, but Stephen Short and Brian Galligan both won to give Cork the title of munster champions for this year.

John Donoghue wins the club championship

In a tight finish John drew with Stephen Short and Dave Flannery lost to Henk de Jonge to give John the title on 6 points, with Stephen Short and Henk de Jonge coming joint second. The prize winners and cross table are available on the club championship page.
