End of season blitz and prize giving on the 24th

There will be an end of season blitz tournament on the 24th of May with the prize giving for the club championship afterwards.

Congratulations to Hugh Doyle on winning Club Championship

Hugh and Keegan decided to play their game early, which went to a Rook and Bishop against Rook and Knight ending with Hugh having a couple of minutes and Keegan his usual couple of seconds! Hugh found a way through to win a fitting battle for the title of Cork Chess Club champion for this year.

Club championship last round changed to the 10th of May.

The bridge club will be using the big room on Friday the 26th so there will not be enough room for all our games to be played. So these games must now be played on the 10th of May unless previously arranged.

Simon Williams wins

Simon won the Cork Congress with 5.5 points with Alex Baburin  second and Dejan Bojkov third masters results. Fionn O'Neill won the major with an excellent score of 6 out 6 with Michael Bradley second and Paddy Divilly and Alan White joint third major results. Padraig Sheehy also scored 6 out 6 to win the minors with three players Peter Doyle, Adam Dean Kearney and Eric Salsac coming joint second minor results..  The pgn from the live boards can be downloaded here.

The double is on for Hugh Doyle

Congratulations to Hugh Doyle on winning the Irish under 19 title at the weekend, and he's leading the Cork championship with one round to go, can he do the double!

Last round draw

The draw for the seventh round is available here, these games must be played on the 26th of April unless you make a previous arrangement with your opponent.

Cork Congress

The Cork Congress starts on the 19th of April, the last day for the cheaper entry fee is the 15th of April, you can download the entry form here.

Sixth round draw

The draw for the sixth round is available here, these games must be played on the 29th of March unless you make a previous arrangement with your opponent.

Munster Junior Chess Meeting

Fifth round draw

Apologies for the delay a number of people have withdrawn and having no tables caused some problems! But the draw for the fifth round is available here, these games must be played on the 22nd of February unless you make a previous arrangement with your opponent.

IM Alex Lopez coaching session

Alex will be giving another coaching session on the 1st of Feb, all welcome. Submit any games that you want him to analyse.

Alex Lopez wins again!

Alex wins the rapid play with Henk de Jung, Kieran O' Riordan and James Danaher coming joint second. See the news section on the right for a report and full results.

Kieran O'Driscoll and Pat Twomey share 1st in Christmas blitz

First place went to Kieran O'Driscoll and Pat Twomey, but there was plenty of prizes across all rating bands, and good fun had by all.

Fourth round draw

The draw for the fourth round is available here, these games must be played on the 18th of January unless you make a previous arrangement with your opponent.

Mulcahy Cup

Pat Twomey will be taking entries for the Mulcahy on Friday during the blitz tournament. The Mulcahy will be from the 28th to the 30th of December at Cork Chess Club premises more info the flyer are available here.

Christmas Blitz is on the 21st.

It's that time of year again! The Christmas blitz will be on the 21st of December, all welcome.

Rapid Play

We will be running another rapid play in the Metropole on the 20th of January, this will be in the Douglas Vance room, not the usual room.

Coaching with IM Alex Lopez this Friday.

International Master Alex Lopez will give a two hour coaching session on the 30th of November in the club, this is not for beginners but players above 1500 will probably most benefit.  If players could send on a game they lost to email: he will analyse some games beforehand for the session.

Third round draw

The draw for the third round is available here, these games must be played on the 14th of December unless you make a previous arrangement with your opponent. Will Denayer is a late entrant to the championship, he had a Belgian rating of 2230 as a young man but hasn't played in a long time.

Alex Lopez wins rapid play

Local IM Alex Lopez won our first rapid play, with Paul Walsh and Arnaud Aoustin coming joint second.  Wim Hoogstad and Keegan O'Mahony won grading prizes a brief report including the final standings is available in the news section on the right. 

Second round draw

The draw for the second round is available here, these games must be played on the 16th of November unless you make a previous arrangement with your opponent.
